Lions Road Toll For the past 12 years an average of 15 Lions have been turning out in the heat of the day to welcome visitors to the Annual Sandcastle Contest. This event is sponsored by the Lake Charlotte Leisure planning Committee. In shifts of 2-3 lions from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., these lions brave the onset of vehicles, making there way to the beach by standing in the center line of the road with a 45 gallon barrel accepting donations from the thousands of visitors to this event. Although we never fill the barrel it somewhat astonishes the motorists to peer into the barrel and find that it appears to be ¾ full (it has a false bottom) Never the less this has been a very rewarding project raising approximately $24,000 to date. Proceeds from this event are used to assist the many projects the Lions support throughout the year. Submitted by Lion Ron Jennex News Update: The Musquodoboit Harbour & District Lions Club says a big thank you to all who generously donated a record $2990.96 on August 18th. 2002. Some of this money will be used to help provide a wheelchair for a young person in the community. Every dollar donated is a dollar to help those less fortunate! Thank you Lions Jim Turner, Ron Jennex, Ted Faulkner, Raymond Arnold, Andre
Saindone, Allen James, Nathan Crew, Mike Gibbons and Trevor Hill, who donated 24
hours of their time on a beautiful Sunday morning and afternoon. |
